Writing Without Writing

Since I started writing this novel back in October 2012, of course I needed to go back and start re-reading what I had so far before continuing on with my work. As I began to read, I noticed that my writing has improved a lot since then, without having done much of this sort between then and now. I decided that I would need to do some revision as I read through. While I was at it, I came up with some fairly significant plot alterations that would need some changing in the 5 chapters I had down already.

These past few weeks have been spent revising and altering-- largely fixing mistakes such as empty and unnecessary paragraphs that were added only for filler and length. I don't particularly care for revision, so it's been very slow going. I hope my work speeds up as soon as I can get back to the actual writing.

I'm only 47 pages in so far. That may not seem like so much, considering I've got 5 chapters, but if you knew how the novel was being laid out you would understand why they can't be terribly long chapters. I feel so far away from my goal. I feel like it will take forever to get there at this rate.

Anyway, I just wanted to keep my non-existent audience updated on where my writing is at.

I've been neglecting my writing...

Since I began neglecting my writing, I got engaged, planned a wedding for a year, got married, and have been married for three months now. My life is finally starting to slow back down and give me a chance to focus on things like writing. I'm happy to finally be able to get back to it.

I am going back to the novel I was writing when I left off before, though I have changed some key plot points in my head. As I go back through what I've already written, I've begun to realize that I matured a lot as a writer over the past year, whether I was actively doing it or not. I've been editing the chapters I already had down to better fit my more filled out writing style and to adjust for the major plot changes in the story.

I'm still only about 12,500 words in and have a goal of 150,000 words. I'm thinking that if I keep at it I might actually start trying for an agent by my birthday (August) and who knows, might even get some good news by the end of the year! Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I really have faith in my novel and my writing. I think at least someone will want it.

Well, there's an update from me to my entire readership of 0 followers. I'll try to keep updating this empty void taking up space on the internet!

Been a while

Haven't posted in a while, sorry! I haven't done any writing lately, which I've got to change. I'm hoping to have another chapter pounded out by the end of the week! Wish me luck guys!

Day 4

Well, I didn't get any writing done today. I had a terrible migraine all day and could barely look at a screen. I will have at least one new chapter out tomorrow though! See you then!

Progress bar, 10/16/2012

Alright, so I actually started my writing a little while back, but I am only just now getting into my groove. I plan to keep updates on my progress on this blog. With every chapter (I may not keep up as much as I plan), I am going to post a little tidbit about how I am feeling about my writing in that chapter, or day if I wrote more than one that particular day. I will continually post along with the updates how many words in I am. My ultimate goal is at least 75,000 words, but seeing as I am not done yet, I don't know if that is a realistic goal. I don't want my novel to be a little wuss of a novel, so I would love for it to be more than 300 pages... I guess we'll see. So far I am 7,500 words in. I have done a few writing sessions, but I don't exactly count the first two. I got a good first chapter written, and then a second. Later (yesterday), I decided I was not satisfied with those chapters so I added and subtracted a lot from both of them. I probably re-wrote about 750 words of it. In addition to that, I wrote chapter three which consists of about 2,500 words and got started on chapter four. Today's goal is to get chapter four finished up and hopefully get a good ways into chapter five, if not finished. As soon as I am done with this post, I will get working. Then I've got some stuff out of the house to do, but when I get back in the evening, it's back to writing for me! I will at least finish chapter four before I go. Yesterday, I started writing at 1 pm, and stopped at about 11 pm! Albeit, I did take a few breaks totaling about an hour and a half and was multitasking most of the time I was writing, but wow! I didn't think I could focus on one thing for so long! I am really glad I could, though. My work was just flowing out of me. Well, I am 7,500 words in, I am going to try to be up to 11 or 12k by the time I finish tonight. One last thing-- have any of you heard of NaNoWriMo? I am trying to do something like that, just starting a little earlier. I couldn't wait that long to write! If I'm in a groove, I am not going to just put it off until some silly game or whatever. So I am trying to get my first draft done in one month. I hope you all have faith in me, I know I do!
