Writing Without Writing

Since I started writing this novel back in October 2012, of course I needed to go back and start re-reading what I had so far before continuing on with my work. As I began to read, I noticed that my writing has improved a lot since then, without having done much of this sort between then and now. I decided that I would need to do some revision as I read through. While I was at it, I came up with some fairly significant plot alterations that would need some changing in the 5 chapters I had down already.

These past few weeks have been spent revising and altering-- largely fixing mistakes such as empty and unnecessary paragraphs that were added only for filler and length. I don't particularly care for revision, so it's been very slow going. I hope my work speeds up as soon as I can get back to the actual writing.

I'm only 47 pages in so far. That may not seem like so much, considering I've got 5 chapters, but if you knew how the novel was being laid out you would understand why they can't be terribly long chapters. I feel so far away from my goal. I feel like it will take forever to get there at this rate.

Anyway, I just wanted to keep my non-existent audience updated on where my writing is at.

I've been neglecting my writing...

Since I began neglecting my writing, I got engaged, planned a wedding for a year, got married, and have been married for three months now. My life is finally starting to slow back down and give me a chance to focus on things like writing. I'm happy to finally be able to get back to it.

I am going back to the novel I was writing when I left off before, though I have changed some key plot points in my head. As I go back through what I've already written, I've begun to realize that I matured a lot as a writer over the past year, whether I was actively doing it or not. I've been editing the chapters I already had down to better fit my more filled out writing style and to adjust for the major plot changes in the story.

I'm still only about 12,500 words in and have a goal of 150,000 words. I'm thinking that if I keep at it I might actually start trying for an agent by my birthday (August) and who knows, might even get some good news by the end of the year! Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I really have faith in my novel and my writing. I think at least someone will want it.

Well, there's an update from me to my entire readership of 0 followers. I'll try to keep updating this empty void taking up space on the internet!
